Workshops & Presentations
Transferring scientific findings to society is one of the DIID's core tasks. Drawing on our members' expertise in the field of “Internet & Democracy,” we develop formats that promote exchange between different scientific disciplines and practitioners.
We organize workshops, exchange formats, and lectures that not only impart knowledge but also open up new perspectives and highlight practical solutions. We work with a variety of target groups, from local governments and educational institutions to civil society organizations. If you are interested, please contact us directly (diid@hhu.de). You can find a selection of formats we have already implemented here:
When it comes to artificial intelligence (AI) in particular, the transfer of scientific knowledge is crucial, not only to politics and business, but also to schools. That is why the DIID organized workshops with students on the topic of AI and discrimination, in which a critical approach to AI was developed in a hands-on way. You can find out more about the workshop here.
The expertise of the DIID and its members is an important resource for policymakers in making evidence-based decisions. During the NRW Digital Tour led by Green Party politician Julia Eisentraut (MdL), participants discussed current DIID research projects and digital policy issues. More information can be found here.
The exchange between science and practice is a central task of the DIID. In cooperation with the CAIS, the DIID initiated a working group on the role of AI in digital participation processes. Together with participation practitioners, the risks and requirements of AI-based instruments for supporting digital public participation processes were developed. You can find more information about the working group here.
Civic participation in politics and science plays an important role at DIID. DIID regularly engages in dialogue with citizens in order to share research findings with society and discuss them. During the panel discussion on the DIID project #meinfernsehen2021, project participants and stakeholders from public broadcasting exchanged views on the project's findings and answered questions from the audience. You can find more information about the event here.
DIID members are experts in their field and, as such, are also active in social education. The public DIID lecture on the role of online discussions brought scientific findings to society outside of university structures. You can find more information about the lecture here.
In addition to individual events, the DIID organises comprehensive event series on the institute's main topics in cooperation with experts from various fields of research. In cooperation with the Bürgeruniversität (Citizens' University) and HeiCAD, the DIID has designed a lecture series on the topic of artificial intelligence. You can find out more about the lecture series here.
